Ya Kang VillageYa Kang Village or Ban Ya Kang is an old community established back when the province was only known as Bang Nara Village (before the 1932 Revolution). It is located at Bang Nak Sub-district, Muang District of Narathiwat Province, approximately 4 kilometers from the Provincial Hall on Highway No. 4055 (Muang District – Ra-ngae District). Take the highway and turn into Soi 6 of Yakang 1 Road and proceed for about 700 meters.
The village covers the area of 1,000 Rai of lowland located near Ya Kang canal, with 20 Rai of plantations, 14 Rai of rice fields and 6 Rai of orchards.
The population is mostly Muslims who are mainly agriculturists, freshwater fishermen and handicraft makers.
The renowned handicraft of Ya Kang Village is Batik fabric with beautiful and unique designs which is the famous souvenir that tourists often buy back home.
Nowadays, Ya Kang Village is a major Batik production center of Narathiwat Province. Therefore, it is one of the most important Thai Muslim villages of Narathiwat.
Tourists can visit Ya Kang Village to see the process of Batik making and buy them as souvenirs all year round. However, visitors should note that on Fridays, local vendors will take the day off to attend prayers, and as a result, shopping trips should be planned on other days.
