The central location
of WatThammaThipatai, formerly Wat Ton Makham or “Tamarind Tree Temple”,
makes a trip to visit its beautiful door panels a must. The ancient
wood panels are constructed of Alangium wood, and measure a massive 1.1
meters by 5.3 meters, were previously hung at WatPhra Fang.The elegant lines of the panel designs typify the graceful style of the Ayutthaya period, including the intricate PhumKhao Bin and KanokBaiThet patterns. They are considered only second best to the famous Bangkok temple WatSuthat, also a beautiful sight.
