Established
in 1989, this marine park covers nearly 80,000 acres of beaches, sea
and islands. Mu Koh Chumphon National Park includes a number of
beautiful beaches, such as Hat Thung Makham and Hat Sai Ri in Amphoe
Mueang, Hat Arunothai in Amphoe Thung Tako, and Hat Tong Khrok in Amphoe
Lang Suan. Off shore, the park encompasses more than 40 islands such
as Koh Chorakhe, Koh Ngam, Koh Samet, Koh Maphrao, Koh Mattra, Koh Thong
Lang, Koh Langka Chio and several islands in Amphoe Thung Tako. Most of
these islands offer fine white sand beaches and coral reefs attractive
to swimmers, snorkelers and scuba divers. Two of the islands are refuges
for swiftlets, the birds whose nests are used in bird’s nest soup.The park office is on the mainland, about 21 kilometers from Chumphon town. Taking Highway 4001, turn right to Hat Sai Ri, then turn right again, continuing for 8 kilometers. The Tourist Information Center for Mu Koh Chumphon National Park is connected with wooden walkways for nature walks to study coastal plants and animals. Visitors can travel to the islands by boat from the office or can stay overnight in tents near the office.
