The Phra Nang
Chamthewi Statue, located in the NongDok public park 1 kilometer from
the provincial city hall,celebratesthe first ruler of Hariphunchai
city-state. The queen was said to have been a skillful, moral and brave
leader, learned in the Buddhist ways. The Haripunchai queen is credited
with spreading the Buddhist culture and religion in the surrounding
lands and in her kingdom, resulting in the area’s economy and
development booming to this day. His Royal Highness the Crown Prince
personally presided over the opening of the memorial in 1981.
