Nakorn Si Thammarat
Municipality by Mr.SomnuekKetchart, the mayor of Nakorn Si Thammarat,
the academician and the villagers had the intention of building a
historical and cultural knowledge center of Nakorn Si Thammarat
province.
At the beginning of the Nakorn Si Thammarat Museum
Foundation, the Municipality restored the Wirathai Building inside the
SomdetPhraSrinakarinpark as the City Museum in order to gather the
history of the city, ancient remains, Buddhism history and culture for
the youth. The history shows that Nakorn Si Thammarat was once a
prosperous city. Nakorn Si Thammarat Museum was built for the intention
of the youth to know this point and also to restore the relationship
with other countries such as China, India, Sri Lanka, Portugal and
Japan. Moreover, this museum is also intended to support the tourism in
Nakorn Si Thammarat.
Nakorn Si Thammarat Museum was opened on 12th August 2003 with the following exhibition;
1. Wirathai Building
On the second floor of this building, the exhibition
shows stories about religion, culture especially
WatPhraMahatadvoramahaviharn. After touring this building, the next stop
is the Queen’s Celebration Building.
On the ground floor of this building, there is a
video presentation of the Nakorn Si Thammarat history in the middle of
the room. Walking along the way, there is another video presentation of
the trading route and the history of the ancient port city.
The exhibition room “The footsteps of the King in
Nakorn Si Thammarat” was built in order to honour the King who proceeded
to Narkon Si Thammarat for 16 times.
The event is exhibited on the 2nd floor. Inside the
room, there are video presentations and pictures of the King proceeding
here.
2. The Queen’s Building
This building is a two storey building. The ground
floor imitates the atmosphere of the ship cruising along the important
cities during the 18th – 19th century. The presentation was made with an
animation video in order for amusement. The staff intended to imitate
the real atmosphere such as the swaying of the ship which made the
tourists impressed and would like to come back.
After leaving the building, the next stop is the port
which imitated the port of Nakorn Si Thammarat. During the old times,
there used to be a puppet to imitate the buying process of the spices by
using the Magic Vision by assuming a Chinese trademan telling a story
of what he found in this city. The story was referred from the diary of
Wang Ta Yuan and Chao Chu Kua, the chinese traveller. The picture and
the sound appears when the button was pressed. The video portrays the
picture of the city along the river, the Buddhist centre and also tells
the story of the religion in this area.
Next is the exhibition of the Nakorn Si Thammarat
development and the history that shows the strong economy during the
ancient time. Moreover, there are exhibitions of the geography, way of
living, culture, local performances. There are also videos for the
tourists to choose on their own.
On the second floor, there are exhibitions that show
the important events such as the event of the Japanese soldier invading
the city on 8th December 1941 and the event of the natural disaster at
Talumpuk in 1962. In this room, there are seats prepared for the
visitors in order for them to take time and absorb the atmosphere during
the ancient time. The atmosphere was built by imitating the real event
such as the wind, the rain and the thunder.
The presentation ended with the royal grace of the
King that brought back the happiness to the people after the crisis at
Talumpuk.
Another area in the second floor exhibits the honour
of the important people in Nakorn Si Thammarat. This area is now under
construction. This area imitates the real event by using puppets and
Diorama and Software animation. Moreover, the room also exhibits the
picture of the silverware and shows the presentation of the royal grace
to the Nakorn Si Thammarat people. The wall in the room also shows
exhibition to honor the Queen and her activities.
