Chaloem Phrakiat Museum or Ruen Thai Derm Museum (traditional Thai house
museum) is a local museum in Mueang District of Kamphaeng Phet Province
and a provincial museum, in line with the idea of Princess Maha Chakri
Sirindhorn. The museum comprises of a group of large Thai houses which
were built elegantly.The museum was established in 1995 in commemoration of the fiftieth anniversary (golden jubilee) celebration of His Majesty the King’s accession to the throne (in 1996). It was inaugurated by Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn in 1997.
The museum is located in house number 104/5 behind the city hall. In front of the museum is Pin Damri Road, next to the Kamphaeng Phet National Museum; whereas, behind the museum is a center for collecting banana varieties. The museum consists of a group of large Thai houses in the central part of Thailand which are constructed grandly. The exhibition in this museum is divided into 4 parts; the history of Kamphaeng Phet Province, the minorities in Kamphaeng Phet such as the Muser, Karen, Lisu, and their tribal performances, the natural science and the tourist attractions in Kamphaeng Phet, as well as the provincial heritages such as marble and oilfield, etc. The museum is featured with an audiovisual room and a multimedia exhibition. The province’s local handicraft products, made by hill tribes and housewives, are also sold at the museum. Besides, there are many kinds of trees inside the area of the Thai houses, as well as the trees that grow in the middle of the house, making the area very cool and pleasant.
Apart from gathering the information and presenting it in the form of exhibition, the museum also has a moral education center, where students and teenagers are taught and trained about art and moral education. Each holiday, the museum is teeming with a lot of teenagers and students who come to acquire knowledge. The center focuses on teaching Buddhism, handicrafts, carving, and making garlands.
Kamphaeng Phet Chaloem Phrakiat Museum opens daily from 9.00 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. The admission fee is 10 baht but those who want to visit the multimedia room have to pay 250 baht per group. For more details, contact 0 5572 2341-2.
