Just 20 kilometers
from the heart of Phayao province lies the hilltop
WatAnalayoThipphayaram. The temple grounds are replete with
Sukhothai-style Buddha images in a variety of postures: reclining,
walking, and seated. Mythic seven-headed Nagas, or sea serpents, guard
some of the cherished statues.WatAnalayaoThipphayaram’s RattanaChedi, or pagoda, was constructed in the Indian Bodh Gaya artistic style, a fusion of Thai and Indian cultures. A nearby Chinese pavilion reveals Eastern influences, housing Guanyin Bodhisattva (a deity) and a glittering gold replica of the world-famous Emerald Buddha image. Sweeping panoramic views of the town and the Kwan Phayao can be observed from the summit.
To get there, take Highway No. 1 Phayao–Chiang Rai route from the town. Passing Km. 743 for 7 kilometers, turn left onto Highway 1127 –1193. Thetemple can be seen after 9 kilometers. It is located at DoiButsarakham, Ban San Pa Muang, Mu 6, San Pa Muang, AmphoeMueang, Phayao.
