Namtok Mae Surin National Park

Attraction Details :
Namtok Mae Surin National Park
Located in the areas of Muang District and Khun Yuam District, Namtok Mae Surin National Park is a popular tourist attraction of Mae Hong Son. It is the area of forests and mountain range with many rock mountains and variety of cliffs such as towering cliffs at Doi Wid Ja and Doi Pung Thun. The park covers the area of approximately 396.60 square kilometers or 247,875 Rai. It was declared the 37th National Park of Thailand on October 29, 1981.
The highland of Namtok Mae Surin National Park is the origin of plentiful streams and the location of many unique natural sights such as waterfalls. The park's main attraction is its namesake waterfall, Mae Surin. Located near the field of Bua Thong flowers and Pai River, Mae Surin Waterfall is a single-tier waterfall surrounded by steep cliffs. It has water all year round and gives birth to many streams and small rivers. With water leaping off a cliff face and plunging onto the rocks 80 meters below, Namtok Mae Surin is one of the highest waterfalls in Thailand.
Other interesting sights of the park include Namtok Damkhon or Namtok Pa Bong. It is a stream of Damkhon creek cascading 40 meters down three tiers of rocks. On the left, there are many small-sized waterfalls originated from Pa Bong. Moreover, there is also Nong Kiew, the area of 200-Rai mountain plain where there is a pine forest. From Mae Surin Waterfall, it takes about 2 hours of walking to reach Nong Kiew. Another important attraction of the park is Doi Pui peak. It is a flat-topped mountain peak in the shape of “Fa Chi” (a cone-shaped cover for keeping food away from flies.) The cold climate on the peak is perfect for numbers of winter plants growing all over the area. To reach Doi Pui peak, it takes about 3-4 hours of walking from Huay Nam Mae Sakued Village.
Guest houses are available with advance reservation at the Department of National Park, Wildlife and Plant Conservation.
To get to Namtok Mae Surin National Park, from Mae Hong Son town, take highway No. 108 heading Khun Yuam for approximately 60 kilometers. From Khun Yuam, it takes approximately 40 kilometers to reach Mae Surin National Park.
