Built in 1997, Hor
Soponnasilp Museum is located within Cheng Ta Temple in Tambol Ta Hin,
Amphoe Mueng, Lopburi. Aimming to educate and encourage art appreciation
to visitors at the same time, the museum collects and displays
valueable Buddhism, art, history, and archaeology-related antiques; some
of which are owned by Cheng Ta Temple and some of which belong to Phra
Kru Sopon Thammarat. The art and antiques exhibition stated in 1999 and
took 2 year to complete in 2001. Run by the temple and community, Hor
Soponnasilp Museum is regarded as one of the best ‘regional museums’ in
the country. The whole construction fund of approximately 7 million
bath is one-hundred-percent from donation.Possessing 253 square-meters, the museum is divided into 4 exhibition sections:
1. The History of Cheng Ta Temple—a vintage photo exhibition showing important places in the temple compound.
2. Monk—an exhibition about the life of Phra Kru Sopon Thammarat, the monk who had devoted his entire life to Buddhism. Apart from that, it also features his china collection.
3. Dhamma—a collection of Buddhist scriptures, Tipitaka, Dhamma book chests, and Buddhist scripture-related items such as an old cloth used to cover a scripture.
4. Lord Buddha—a collection of Buddha images, cloths painted with Buddha and Vessantara Jataka, and votive tablets
5. Maitreya—an exhibition about Maitreya, the future Buddha of this world in world in Buddhist eschatology
