Pliw Waterfall
National Park’s area spans across Mueang, Lamsing, Klung, and Makham
districts of Chanthaburi province. It consists of forests, complex high
mountain ranges, and headwaters of many rivers which make the park
atmosphere cool throughout the year. The highest point of the park is at
the Mabwakrog Summit. Pliw Waterfall National Park is 14 kilometers
away from Chanthaburi’s town center. The entire road leading to the park
is paved so it is easy to travel there for relaxing.Pliw Waterfall National Park is the 11th national park of Thailand. Originally, the area was called Srabahb Mountain National Park. The name was later changed when Mr.Pajon Thanamittramanee, the Chief Officer of Srabahb Mountain National Park submitted an official document requesting that the name be changed into Pliw Waterfall National Park. The reason is because Pliw Waterfall is naturally beautiful and has water flowing all year long. It is also a very well-known and important attraction of the park. In the 29th September 1982, The National Park Committee had a consensus to change the name of the park from “Srabahb Mountain National Park” to “Pliw Waterfall National Park.”
There are many interesting attractions within the park such as Pliw Waterfall which is a large and beautiful waterfall with water flowing throughout the year. The waterfall comprises of 2 rivers. One cascades down through the cliff’s crevices. Another river is smaller but dropping down 20 meters from a cliff. The water from both rivers meets at a pond. The water in the pond is so clear that the 2 meters deep, stone and sand bottom is visible. Many kinds of small and large fish reside in the area of the waterfall and rivers. Such sight is spectacular to visitors, especially that of Mahseer barbs.
The word “pliw” is said to come from Chong language, which was used by the native people. The word means “sand” or “beach”, although the name of Pliw Waterfall is also speculated to derives from a plant. This vine plant grows well in sandy soil. It flowers and bears raisin-sized reddish-yellow fruits. The plant is common around this area.
The area of Pliw Waterfall also has a pathway to study the nature. The park’s authority has constructed a path dedicating to studying of the nature, the forests’ conditions, and many types of floras for interested students and general public.
Another interesting attraction is the Pranangruealom (The sunken boat lady) stupa, which is situated in the vicinity of the waterfall. It was built in the reign of King Rama V (2424 BE) to commemorate the life of queen Sununtakumareerat prabromrajdhewi and contain her ashes.
Beside the ones above, the park also has many other attractions such as Clong Narai waterfall, Saan pond, Srong or Hong pond, Pra Narai cave, Trognong waterfall, Makog waterfall, Huay Tabo reservoir. There is also a sightseeing spot, where visitors can observe the park’s fertile forests, the fruits orchards, the rubber plantations, the residential area of the locals, and if the sky is clear, the sea can be seen.

If visitors wish to travel from Bangkok to Pliw Waterfall National Park by car, they can drive along two main roads:
1.Drive along the highway 3 (Sukhumvit road), Bangna - Trad line. When you reach the milestone 347, turn left and continue driving for 2.5 kilometers. You will then reach the governing office of the park. The total distance is 340 kilometers.
2.Drive along the highway 317. Enter the Baanbueng – Glang road leading to Chanthaburi. When you reach the milestone 347, turn left and continue driving for about 2.5 kilometers. You will then reach the park’s governing office. The total distance is 270 kilometers.
If visitors wish to travel there by public transportations, they can accomplish it by boarding a travel bus to Chanthaburi province at Ekkami station in Bangkok. When you reach the station in Chanthaburi, board a minibus around the market to travel to Pliw waterfall. Estimated time in this method range from 30 minutes to an hour.
