Attraction Details :
“Kra Bue”, which Thais
usually call “Kwai” or known as “buffalo” in English, is an animal that
has engaged in Thais’ daily life for a long time. It is used for
farming and has formed good relationship with people. In addition, there
are local traditions showing respect and gratefulness to a buffalo. In
Sing Buri, during the Burmese-Siamese war, which was the war of the
second fall of Ayutthaya, buffaloes were used as a vehicle by Bang Rajan
warriors to fight against the Burmese. Thus, Kwai Thai Khao Ngam
Conservation Center was founded in order to take care of the buffaloes
that are used for agriculture and involved in Bang Rajan’s bravery.Kwai Thai Khao Ngam Conservation Center is located near Wat Phranon Chaksi Worawihan in Amphoe Mueang Sing Buri. The Conservation Center is reached conveniently. It was built in 2000 or more than 10 years ago by Rotary Centre in Sing Buri and Wat Phranon Chaksi Worawihan. The foundation of Kwai Thai Khao Ngam Conservation Center is the project of Meti Pariyatiyodom, the abbot of Wat Phranon Chaksi Worawihan so as to prevent Thai buffaloes from extinction. Nowadays, in agriculture, machines are generally used instead of the buffaloes. The Thai buffaloes are therefore forsaken, and do not have close relationship with farmers like before. Kwai Thai Khao Ngam Conservation Center nurtures the buffaloes and agriculturalists breed them so that the younger generations will get to know the Thai buffaloes that the people use for ploughing, threshing, and fight against the enemy. Charitable people can bring the buffaloes which are saved from being killed in a slaughterhouse to the Kwai Thai Khao Ngam Conservation Center in order to have them bred.
Tourists can visit the buffaloes closely, gain knowledge, and take photos. Kwai Thai Khao Ngam Conservation Center is open daily from 8 am to 6 pm.
Kwai Thai Khao Ngam Conservation Center is not far from the downtown and Wat Phranon Chaksi Worawihan. Begin from Sing Buri Square, go straight to cross the bridge above Chao Phraya River, go straight to Sing Buri Shrine Intersection, and Sing Buri Technical College Intersection, then, turn right, and go straight to Wat Phranon Chaksi Worawihan.
