Phra
Phutthanirarokhantarai Chaiyawat Chaturathit or Phra Si Mum Mueang is
the four Buddha images built under the ancient belief of the town since
Ayutthaya period of having auspicious objects placed on four directions
to protect the town. The Buddha images are in “Chutura Puttha Prakan”
style which is to build temples or Buddha images on four direction to
protect and bring good luck to the town.At present, the four Buddha images were moved to be placed on four directions of Thailand in different provinces:
North – Lampang City Pillar Shrine, Lampang Province
South – Patthalung Province
East – Wat Sala Dang Temple, Saraburi Province
West – Khao Kanchan, Ratchaburi Province
For the image in the south, which is the auspicious object of worship of Phatthalung, was installed in a pavilion with four porches on the foreground between the City Hall and Provincial Court of Phatthalung. It is a bronze Buddha image in the posture of meditation which was given to Patthalung Province in 1968 by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
