The City Pillar Shrine
is the heart of Yala province, and is located in front of City Hall.
His Majesty the King graciously bestowed upon the province the tip of
the pillar in 1962.The shrine houses the City Pillar, made of the
aromatic cassia heartwood. The pillar is 50 centimeters tall, with a
base circumference of over 1 meter, tapering to a 90 centimeter-wide
top. The finial features the four faces of Brahma and a flame. The
shrine is surrounded by a shady public park where a celebratory fair is
held annually to homage to the City Pillar spirit at the end of
May-beginning of June.
The shrine is located on Phipit Phakdi Road.
