Wat Phai Lom

Attraction Details :
Located on the east bank of the Chao Phraya River in Amphoe Sam Khok, WatPhaiLom is a temple known for its variety of beautiful migrating birds. Asian Openbills migrate from India to lay their eggs here from November to May. Other kinds of migratory birds include Black-capped Kingfishers, Spot-billed Pelicans and Black-headed Ibises. Declared a preservation area, the surrounding dense forests have been home to Openbills for over a century.
Nearby, a nature study route and bird-watching tower offer visitors the opportunity to catch a glimpse of the exotic birds. For more information on the non-hunting zone, please contact the Office of the Non-hunting Area at WatPhaiLom and WatAmphuWararam at 0 2979 8677.
To get there, take the PathumThani-Chiang Rak mini bus from the center of Mueang district and get off in front of the temple. Alternatively, take the PathumThani-Sam Khok line to Wat Don (WatSuratRangsan) or WatSamakkhiyaram and take a ferry crossing the Chao Phraya River to the temple. (The fee is 10 baht a person.) In addition, buses running along the Mo Chit-AmphoeSena and Nonthaburi-AmphoeSena lines heading to Wat Don are also available, taking passengers to a dock where a ferry picks up visitors to the temple. Moreover, a tour package by the river is provided on the Bangkok-WatPhaiLom-Bang Sai Royal Folk Arts and Crafts Centre route organized by the Chao Phraya Express Boat Co., Ltd. It is a one-day trip and is organized every Sunday. For more information, please call 0 2623 6001-3 or visit www.chaophrayaboat.co.th.
